New study from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine shows concussions create problems and affect your brain performance -- Even when a CT brain scan says “all is clear.”

Many people with concussions in their past gradually experience increasing problems. Often, it exacerbates issues they already have, but slowly.     It may be delayed one or two years after the concussion,  or even much longer.  .  This new research described below from a major medical school shows anyone with a concussion can having a low level head injury – impacting cognitive performance. The CT scan or MRI will often not identify the problem.  Thus most people (from athletes to adults too children) are sent home and told, “You’ll be OK.”  If everything clears up after a few days, they’ll be fine.  Only when the person is starting to experience more struggles – often years later, does the real problem show up.  Rarely does anyone associate the problems with the earlier head injury.

Neurofeedback is one of the most promising treatments for those head injuries.  There is increasing evidence that functional improvement can occur years later – with appropriate training.  Neurofeedback is one of the few treatments that improves cortical brain function.  It helps improve the efficiency of the brain circuits.  This improves cognition, executive function, behavior, mood, and attention.

Definitely an article worth reading - find it here.

Eating (and drinking) with an eye on brain health increases the success of your neurofeedback treatments.  Happy Neuron’s new article gives some great (and tasty) ideas of where to get started.  Check out the info on basic berries in their natural form that help the brain as well as choosing expresso over other coffee.
